i am just beginning to crochet and i was wondering if amigurumi is easy to learn or if if there are other patterns i should start off with. i want to end up with quite a few...

Hi- amigurumi might prove to be a little challenging if there are too many appendages. If you choose something that isn't too challenging you will be less frustrated. Making some squares or swatches this get used to the basic stitches might be more helpful with just beginning.
Explore options at your local yarn shop for crochet help. Also - see if there is a crochet guild group in your area - they will provide ALL KINDS of info and help. Welcome to the wonderful world of crochet!
