PROJECTS  HOTH / HOTK

Hot off the hook / Hot off the kneedles

Tiger Owl Cowl (by knittingdaddy on Ravelry)  This is the second time I've knitted this cowl.  It's has some challenging moves on a couple of rows, but I love the design and the challenge. This was about a 6 week project.  I did a pattern repeat of 6 instead of 5, and just had enough to complete the project.  The yarn is a somewhat nubby cotton (I included the yarn info below).

Pineapple Collar

Pattern: Booklet #1047 American School of Needlework 1986;
Pretty Pineapples' by Mary Thomas

I love working with #10 crochet cotton thread.  I've done several collars over the years, and they aren't as popular as they used to be..but I like them.  And my old lady self enjoys wearing them :-)
There are some beautiful rich colors of thread to had, you do have to look for them.  Hobby Lobby has the artiste line, JoAnn has a decent selection of Aunt Lydia's.  Some of the nicest thread is the DMC Cebelia-smooth, sleek and shiny.
Stitching Projects
A fixer-upper project:  Update.... March 2023
This project is to make this king sized crocheted spread into a double sized spread.  Made in size 10 crochet cotton, dismantling the correct number of squares then carefully salvaging edges are done now.  Still a few spots to be fixed within the spread.  Then, lots of stitch counting in order to add a new border.
UPDATE SEPT 2022: The spread is completed.  The owner is happy with the finished product and we're looking at using the remnants for a window valance.  I'm working on that project and will post pictures as this additional piece progresses.  This project took a back seat for a bit, but is back on my lap.  I have the 2 valances pieced and have begun working around them.  Still a challenge - figuring out the loop or loops on the back to provide space for a curtain rod. Hopefully a few pictures soon.

Crochet & Chicks

Some some fun stuff....

New Zealand Vest -

The vest is completed and delivered.
I started working on this idea over 3 years ago.  My daughter brought yarn back from a trip to
New Zealand and asked that I make her something.  This is a one of a kind.  I haven't taken notes
well enough over the last 2 years to reproduce it.
It has been a labor of love and very unique.

I used strips of hairpin lace in front an along the back, filling in with netting type stitches, finished the
border with a small shell type stitch along the front and hem, then single crochet around the armholes.
More pictures of the finished project soon.

Komorabi Shrug
[Published in Interweave Crochet as Civic Shrug]

The first version of this shrug was crocheted in Newton's Rayon and had a great deal of drape. I needed a shrug with a larger arm hole and bell sleeve, so this is what I whipped up.  The shrug is worked from the center outward on either side.  The shoulder flairs and is pulled together and the sleeve is worked in the round.  With a few repeats of certain rows, this is easily adjusted between sizes.

This pattern was published in Interweave Crochet as the Civic Shrug.  The yarn used here is Lion Brand Silk.  It was slightly heavier, although still classed as a #2 weight.  It did not have as much drape as the rayon Newton's yarn.  It worked up just a little tighter than the original.  I advise using a silky but drapey yarn if making this shrug.

I tried another yarn for the Shrug - Malabrigo.  This was better than the Lion Brand Silk in that it had more stretch and drape.  I used 2 colors for a contrast edging.

Summer's Whimsey Lace Scarf

This lacy scarf has some fun elements, shells, multi-yarn over stitches, and solomon's knot.  It can easily be stitched in a convenient length for a neck scarf, or head wrap or even a belt.  Worked in a #5 thread it's light weight and makes a great summer accessory.

COTTON CROCHET MARKET BAGS!

Time to start stitching up little crocheted market bags for spring farmers market trips. These little bags are so versatile.  Use them in your larger bags to keep things separated OR from getting smushed!  Click the link below to go to the crochet pattern page to download your copy today!
I decided to try this pattern in a worsted weight cotton.  It makes a MUCH larger bag - but I wanted to get an idea of just how much larger.  Posted below - a picture for size comparison.

Shown above - the white bag is made in worsted weight cotton.  It is considerably larger,
but shows that the pattern can be made in any size yarn.
